In the week from May 16 to 20, a wide range of lectures, workshops, and visits to facilities providing health care took place at the university campus and also at the premises of the Faculty of Health Studies, where an exhibition named “Dimension of Mental Health” took place.
During the initial lecture, PhDr. Eva Procházková, PhD outlined the programme and activities of the Social Care Week, which was followed by a visit to a retirement home located in Masarykova Street in Liberec.
On Tuesday, students met at the lecture hall to hear a lecture on the reform of psychiatric care, which was prepared by Bc. Lenka Schneiderová, a specialist on destigmatisation for the Liberec Region. The lecture was part of the programme “Mental Health is a topic for everybody”. Members of the Fokus Liberec team took part in a discussion on a new service and the role of a nurse in a multidisciplinary team. The afternoon discussion on “My name is not a diagnosis” was hosted by Anna Lorencová.
On Wednesday, the Kosatec centrum organised a seminar, where you could try what it is like to live with a handicap. Students were very much interested in trying glasses simulating defects of the eye, as well as an ageing simulation suit that enables to simulate a feeling of physical ageing and the discomfort the elderly may feel. Putting the suit on, you “age” several decades and may have a better understanding of why some elderly people may be occasionally malicious. The simulator helps promote social empathy and consideration towards the elderly population through experience. Older age brings not only wisdom but also various health issues; therefore, it is of great interest to experience personally “temporary old age”.
The programme on Thursday focused on the prevention of burn-out syndrome, which people in caring professions often experience, and on artefiletics, the activities promoting emotional experience through art therapy. The lecture was hosted by Martina Semrádová.
The Social Care Week was concluded on Friday when the Day with Liberec Region took place. The programme was very well-received by the students.
Our faculty will continue to prepare similar programmes in the future.
