The annual training programme Rescue on Surface Ice allowed the Year 3 students of the Paramedic Study Programme at the Faculty of Health Studies to experience what it is like to rescue on surface ice over a water reservoir.
The students received theoretical knowledge of surface ice rescue and cooperation with the Liberec Medical Rescue Service. The practical training showed them various techniques and rescue skills when responding to surface ice incidents. Moreover, the students tried to rescue someone with no protective gear. They also prepared a hypothermia wrap for the rescued.
The practical part took part at the dam in the town of Jablonec nad Nisou. The training organisers, BALIC - Basic Lifesaving Competence, said the training conditions were ideal. The weather was adverse, and the ice was 2-12 cm thick.
