Study Programme: Follow-up Master - Biomedical Engineering (N0914P360003)
Language: Czech
Form of Study: Full-time
Duration: 2 years

The Biomedical Engineer is a 2-year Master´s programme completed by a final state exam made up of an oral exam and a defence of the student´s diploma thesis. The successful graduate is granted the Ing. Title. It is a full-time study programme. All the subjects are taught in the Czech language only.

The Biomedical Engineer programme is a key non-medical study programme. It respects the recommendations of professional associations and societies.

The programme aims to prepare the graduates´ practical skills for their future careers at facilities providing medical healthcare. It is an interdisciplinary professional and scientific discipline, which combines and joins areas of engineering (electrotechnical, electronic and cybernetic), experience from physics, mathematics and biology, and skills necessary for dealing with practical issues in medicine and various branches of biology.

A Biomedical Engineer gets knowledge and skills in technology and physics. Therefore, he or she can take part in the research and development of new medical devices, and technologies, as well as undertake more complex clinical procedures. The student acquires solid knowledge in this area, which allows him to continue his or her studies in further doctoral study programmes or in highly specialised programmes like Perfusiology, Clinical Engineering, or Structure and Management in Healthcare.

As a follow-up study programme, it is more complex and specific. Students get familiar with signal processing, image processing, and modelling of physiological processes and medical devices. The students can choose one of two modulesRobotics or Cardiology. Based on the choice of the module, students select corresponding subjects and type of practical training. Practical Training takes place at outstanding facilities providing healthcare both in and outside the Liberec Region.

In comparison with the Biomedical Technician study programme, the Biomedical Engineer has broader competencies and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. As an Engineer, the student can take managerial work positions and take part in research and development, both in the academic, and industrial world.

It is possible for students to study abroad within the Erasmus + student exchange programme or take part in a summer school abroad.
